APL, Association of Pension Lawyers

The APL is an association of more than a thousand lawyers who practise pensions law in the UK. Membership is subject to application and approval. Our members include leading legal practitioners in the field.

We began life in 1984, principally as a forum for exchanging ideas amongst lawyers advising in a relatively new legal specialism. We have, since then, significantly grown as a professional body and extended our range of activities to reflect the now established field of pensions law.

We are not a political organisation, and do not comment on pensions policy, but we engage with Government on various initiatives, providing practical experience and technical input on legislation and regulatory guidance.

Conferences and Education

We hold regular events on current topics and key issues throughout the year, including a highlight annual conference, a one-day summer conference, introductory courses (for newly-qualified lawyers and trainees) and seminars on specialist topics.

We also hold regular case law seminars, workshops on various topics and a prestige lecture from a key industry figure.

Organisation

The APL has no paid officers and no paid secretariat. It is a non-profit making membership organisation, governed by a Constitution, and consisting principally of a Main Committee and the following seven sub-committees:

Regional Groups

The APL also has a number of regional groups, which host events and seek to further the APL's objectives across the UK. There are groups covering:
